Basic looks, no... but the heart and soul, yes.

My 911 (also known as a 993) was the last of the hand build and air cooled's. My speedometer is small and the tach is huge and right in front of my face. The only visible electronic device is a Blaupunkt radio. No frills anywhere, until you press the accelerator, get the RPM's above 4000 and listen to the engine behind you growl and roar. In 1999 they released the 996 which had weird headlights, lots of gadgets, heated seats, big GPS display, etc. I think it looked like the 911 but didn't have the soul. They are recapturing it again with the latest version - the 997. It went back to the traditional headlights and the fat rear end like my car has (I have a 993 Carrera S - turbo widebody without the turbo engine). I had the choice between a 2004 996 and my 1998 993 when I bought it, but after driving both and looking at what a piece of art mine is the choice was easy. Just my humble opinion.
