Ron, Me thinks I was not clear. I use the streight

() splice. Anything else won't go through my windlass gypsy. I have never had any problems with the streight splice but I had a back splice cut through on my old manual. The directions called for a back splice and they even supplied some shrink tube to go over the three strand but over time it still cut through. I changed to a streight splice and never looked back. But, hey!, if it works on your windlass over time without any problems then why not keep doing what works.
