The post was a simple inquiry about MMSI. Your response "Junk". Your rational--theft, rape, murder may result from revealing your position and then of an interesting but irrelevant discourse on how AIS transceivers do likewise and are a vehicle for graft by port authorities. We all know that AIS uses MSSI numbers to identify the sending vessel. Then a thread about scooped transoms leading to invasions of the boat by criminals. A reference to fellow boaters being assaulted and a judgment about who needs communication between boaters anyway--drink and move on. Dan, someting else is going on and maybe its time to come north for a bit.
As for me, I'm a coastal fair weather sailor in the Northeast. I sail from Maine to New Jersey with my wife and sometimes in the accompaniment of other friends on other boat(s) but mostly ourselves. I like being informed, having a good meal at a restaurant or YC and the end of the day, and equate sailing with a fairly high end vacation. I also see from you boat that you are not "roughing it" in a 50+ yacht with stateroom.
Yes you are a cruiser, you must have skills and courage I do not--but I would guess most people on this BB are coastal sailor like me and that we enjoy it and --here may be a shock-do not aspire to life on a boat in a third world country.
Fair winds.
BTW I have no need for SSB--it junk to me I have my VHF and cell phone.
