Of course my defintion of cold weather sailing is subject to my sailing grounds.
This family and their boat were a quick study in winter sailing. Not the typical metal "high latitude" boat. This glass Westerly seemed well suited for what they were doing. It felt simple, dry, and able to keep you comfortable. A well built glass boat is more than able. That feeling was supported by seeing the family comfortable around it.
The Espar heater would be a sort of treat I would think. Not a survival tool. It can fail or could use up amp storage in a hurry. A boat can be good shelter, but it's not a typical house and that mistake shouldn't be made.
Comfort(and survival) is keeping dry and warm which is standard winter recreation thinking. It's refreshing to hear someone wanting to head to where the butter is hard as a rock Justin.
This is a treat on our boat in "cool" weather, but our boat is not well suited for what this family is doing.
