We are interested in relocating to the mid south Va./ N.C. area. My sailboat is currently in Maine. I'd like to ask a few questions about the mid south area from those who are familiar with such...
1) How far south does one have to be in order to leave the boat in the water all year, without having to haul for ice ? Is N.C. any warmer as far as water temps are concerned than the Norfolk area?
2) Difference in Va vs N.C. as far as Tax (luxury, new sales tax etc.) liabilities on a boat are concerned.
3) Sailing venues of say the Norfolk area compared to the Beaufort N.C. area.
4) Costs of housing (modest house or condo) between the two areas.
5) Weather differences, if any, between the 2 areas. Any warmer in N.C Beaufort area than Norfolk?
6) Quality of yards for work and service between the 2 areas. (I do some things on the boat, other tasks are better left to those that are really good at what they do). Are there good yards in both areas?
