Similar experience three years ago. Picture of my VHF whip below -- note the screw on PL-259 connector (which was taped) went missing completely, and the conductor blew off. That's a stainless whip that melted (~4,000 degrees f). Lots of random damage below. Basically anything with a diode was toast. When I tied to start the engine the panel went up in smoke like in the old Mission Impossible TV starting scenes.
Where you aboard? Those random side-flashes are what worry me.
