Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

All in all, I see that as a pretty fair assessment...

Hi Charlie,

Sorry about the chronology confusion, I wasn't aware of the precise timing of the statements made and posted relative to the loss on TRIPLE STARS, or the fact that Hank had nothing further to say in the aftermath of that tragedy...

Still, I think his comments are a bit rich, coming from the one who gave the green light to depart Newport when they did, with Herb advising against a departure at that time... But, one thing's for sure, no way in hell I'd ever want to be put in his position, having to make that sort of call on behalf of a bunch of other sailors... Obviously, he chose to put himself in that position, but I still can't imagine that sort of stress, I'll cut him some slack, there...

I appreciate your follow-up here, thanks for clarifying some of this... I suppose the only suggestion I'd offer that might have been done differently, was perhaps to have instead titled your blog entry "Are Today's Sailors Too Reliant Upon Modern Offshore Weather Routing Services?", or similar? (grin)

I enjoy you blog, btw - always an interesting read, and a great resource, nicely done...

best regards,

Jon
