I bought a Torqeedo 1003 last year...

It is about equivalent to 3 hp. It pushes my compact rib 310 at up to 5 knots. It will push the dinghy at 3-3.5 knots with two people and gear aboard for about 5 miles on a charge with the smaller 400 watt/hour battery. I am going to upgrade to the 520 watt-hour battery this year which should give me about 30% more range. The only down sides of the electric outboard are that it takes 5-10 hours to recharge depending on how far down you ran it and that it would be very difficult to secure against theft since it comes apart very easily and doesn't have any way of securing the tiller/control handle. Because of the security issues, I took mine home after each use. The 28 lb weight makes it easy to carry though
