I mean it, don't laugh! When we were preparing a second trip down the ICW, I was looking into getting a cockpit enclosure of sorts made for our 28' boat. Following these ICW blogs has reminded me of that. But the problem is a small sailboat is almost impossible to enclose the cockpit well, rigging and all that stuff. The boat I have now is even worse with a mizzen! BUT, take it all off,...imagine a "hood" made of something light but strong. It goes over the dodger dam forward, down to the side decks, outside the coamings, aft past the cockpit.
Guess what, you have a waterproof enclosure that you can now put plexi in the front(go wild, hinge them...), a couple easy access egress openings along the sides.
Plenty of ways to hold it down, cleats, winches, mast over the top, and you have it, the ICW seasonal commuter. Counterpart to the EU barge canal boats. But our boats are evolving differently, we have to go outside at each end. I was thinking I'd leave the top at a friends house in Cocoa Beach, and your house on Barnegat Bay.
