It's time to replace all the chainplates. The boat is 34 years old (a 1978 Rival 32) and, from what I've seen, I suspect the chainplates currently on the boat are original equipment. I plan to check with the previous owners to be sure. (They bought the boat when it was three years old and owned it until they sold it to me.) Unfortunately, Rival went out of business in 1988 (I believe) so I'll have to have replacements fabricated. I'm open to any suggestions.
But that will take time. At this point I'm planning to have the eyes tested. If they check out okay, that should buy me some time to get replacements made. If not, well, I'll come up with something.
