I've had Spurs for about 15 years on two boats with extensive cruising in Maine and have not gotten fouled even once. (knock on wood). Of course I am extra careful also and pay close attention to lobster pots, but I've tested my Spurs while on the hard with different lines and the mechanism works well. Not to say that others aren't good also.
