I was curious to see what had gone on. Sure enough, winds were below 5 knots when we started. But the current pushing our boat at 1.5 knots, put this additional apparent wind over our sails(I think,...), just the additional wind we needed.

This is probably a well used racers tool in current areas in light winds, I'd just not had the experience. Add to that the current pushing us to windward, and it was memorable.
