When I replaced my shaft, I specified Aquamet 22. Turns out Navtec uses the same stuff for their rod rigging, but use the Nitronic 50 designation - some sort of duplex stainless steel. I condemned my original shaft due to corrosion in way of the cutless bearing after only 15 years of life - it's still doing yeoman duty getting rocks out of the garden.
