I have a Razr Maxx 4G phone on Verizon and if it can't find 4G, which they just turned on two weeks ago around here, or get a good enough 4G signal, it just drops back to 3G and if it can't get good 3G it just drops back to 1X... I can often flip on our cell phone amplifier and get the 3G back when it drops to 1X but I occasionally need to re-boot the phone with the amplifier already on in order to do that.
So far, in just the two weeks we've had it, I am not impressed at all with 4G. We can watch Netflix on 3G with no issues and the 4G so far has not proven to be any faster in loading the movies on the iPad while tethering via wifi to the phone.. Beginning to think its somewhat of a scam as I ran a speed test, on the phone, and they cam up soooo close that the 4G hype seems totally over blown. Perhaps it is "on" but not at full speed yet? One can only hope it performs better than 3G as they've certainly hyped it as such...
