I don't know what happened to them. These old boats have wonderful practical seagoing spaces. Extra cockpits, dog houses, big decks under biminis, they're quite inviting to see. But they have so little "space" in the same length as contemporary designs.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, it's just a matter of taste for some of us.

Do you want a voluminous saloon with high wrap around windows, sweeping with gleaming bright open space, or do you prefer a more boat like interior where you squeeze through a passageway to a snug berth, that's guaranteed to squeak at night.

That schooner in Pulpit was a real beauty, I should have gotten more photos and info. She was crewed by a couple that anchored there. I watched them raise anchor the next day, sort of a handful for two,... I think there have been great improvements in that area for handling more boat with less crew.

Still, the old boats like that schooner have stood the test of time no matter what comes off the new boat drawing board. Like old architecture, the old designs are here to stay.
