I had an interesting situation. My engine would only start when I hit the parallel button throwing the house bank into the start circuit. The battery's were fine as the start batterys voltage was good under load.

Found out it was the starter and needed an incredible number of amps to turn it. Bought a new bigger one and had the old one repaired to use as a spare.
