you will be saturating a bunch more copper and then dropping it out. It will work but over time your solenoid contacts will suffer premature failure. Follow the directions and place the solenoid as close as you can to the windless. Lay the cables down on two small power post and connect the windless wires as directed using ring connectors of the proper size. You will have to trouble shoot your windless failure sometime in the future so make it easy on yourself now. Also, by using power posts you can pick up the DC to a spotlight plug located at the bow. That way you can turn on the windless switch to power up the plug and have crew on the bow with your spotlight and not have to deal with light reflected back at you while working your way through some tricky passage at night. If you use your spotlight from the cockpit it's almost worthless looking forward.
