I have just noticed that I have the option to connect a GPS to my radar. At first I thought it had to be a Furuno specific accessory, but have since come to realize that any NMEA 0183 based GPS will work.

It appears that in reality, all this gets me is lat and long display and a few other numbers, such as speed and course... but little else. I see no reason to do this for what little it gains.

If there was a map overlay on the Radar, now that would be great, but this is a pretty basic Radar.

Can anyone see any real advantages to doing this... just for the few lines of text that will result?
