My experience as start boat..

Volunteered to help out the Ensign regionals as race committee & start boat. One Ensign, barging the start, caught his hull/deck joint on my transom and managed to peel off 6' of the joint. As he re-rounded to start, a crew member is duck taping the open joint. He calls to the skipper 'Don't hit him again, we're out of tape.' Skipper was a total a..h... - never even apologized for hitting me. Fortunately, my damage was just a little chipped gel coat - easy to fix. 98% of the folks out there racing are reasonable, sane, and rational - it's the other 2% that cause the Appeals Book to weigh more than the RRS.
