Spar varnish is soft because it needs to be flexible so it doesnt crack on a bendy SPAR; BAR TOP or HARD varnish isnt 'soft' and is infinitely more resistant to dings and scratches .... and spilled booze. You may have difficulty finding it or finding someone who will 'make it' for you, big box stores will have NO idea.
