That started out as about 90 degrees true and moved to "close hauled", they then headed-off -- but it doesn't look deep?

My take-away from what you were describling, Larry (which I thought was illuminating to me), really didn't exactly fit that circumstance.

They never got to the stage where they could get deep. They did conceptually what you suggested, Larry.

In my opinion, the boats' designs are just too extreme (a/k/a one-trick-ponies, with limited range).

Regardless, they could have reduced the forward thrust by easing the main and (maybe the jib), couldn't they?
