... apparently, then they would re-balance & true the prop, they say it will be "as good as new". They quoted me "about $200" for a similar ding on my ski boat, my prop is NiBral, made by Michigan Wheel Marine. I decided to buy a new prop, CNC tooled for $400, after shipping back & forth, that seemed to make sense. Like your idea, I filed the banged up one and use a spare.
I'm surprised you didn't feel the difference. I had the slightest imperfection on my 3 blade Max Prop on the Tartan and the vibration was Huge. On the other hand, I talked to this guy who ran his ski boat aground, HARD, the prop was mangled, all the blades, and he said it was barely noticeable. He took the prop off, bent it all back, filed it down, looked pretty good, and after that, the boat ran horribly, go figure.
So ... once you make alterations, filing and so forth, you may find it performs worse than it does now.
