This was the bar at the Shore Acres Yacht Club, where I learned to sail as a kid...
In Response To: storm damage ()

Hey oldguy,

First time I ever bought a corsage for a girl, would have been for my date for the annual summer Dinner Dance when I was 13, or thereabouts... Patty Conroy was her name...

Lots of fond memories of this place, our lives revolved around activities at SAYC during my summers growing up at the shore... My parents spent many a warm summer Saturday evening here with friends, my dad was named Rear Commodore of this unpretentious little club the same year that he died...

Approaching the club the second day after the storm, after the water had finally receded enough to do so, it didn't look too bad from afar... The building still standing, looking reasonably intact... But, walking around the front, it was completely blown in... And, the entire building had been shifted off it's foundation of pilings, and moved back about 4 feet from where it had always stood since being built after WW II...

Great seeing you again in Cape May the other night, my friend - glad you came through this one as well as you did...

You and I were among the lucky ones, so much of the Jersey Shore will never be the same again...

best regards,

Jon
