fact that apparently he had some experience with hurricanes and decided to try to sail around it. A friend of mine and I were discussing what we would have done over dinner a couple of weeks ago. He sails the Atlantic quite a bit and is currently in Europe having crossed from Nova Scotia. His opinion was to go north and mine was to head to Nova Scotia. Having gone through one hurricane in the Virgin Islands there's no way I would ever had tried to "sail around it". If I had time and I was in his situation I might have ran like hell north but I sure as hell wouldn't have left late. I would have tried to nail the boat down as best as I could and called it a day. Having had close encounters with hurricanes in the past like he said, I just don't get his decision.
