I have an 800mm Soligor F5.6 I used for surfing photography.

you could round it out with something between 600 to 1,000 mm. You've got an extender but it just degrades the image by blowing up the circle. Lots of problems with extenders. No different than blowing up and cropping after it's taken.
But you know that.
