Sooooo. Less than 2 weeks ago I was working on my electrical system. I replaced the deck connector & plug for our aft (85 Watt) panel with a new one. As I did it, I looked around and grabbed a tube of home type sealant. It was handy and did not require a ride to a marine store or waiting on a shipment. I wanted to protect the connector innerds in case of rain. And it is after all, on our aft deck. It has NOT rained since I installed it.
Fast forward to yesterday. I decided to up-size the short length (about 2 Ft.) of cord from the panel to the (new) deck connector. The connector was just put on so I thought it would be no problem to just move it to the new cable. When I opened it up, LOOK what I found!!!
It was hard to believe that in less than 2 weeks, it had corroded this much. It IS marine cable that is tinned.
Then I remembered that as it cures, this sealant out gasses vinegar type acid! DUMB ME!!
I consider this a lesson well learned!
