They leveled out the print-through very nicely

The original gelcoat and layup was very thin, and being dark it showed a lot of print-through when it was shiny. I told the painters that I could live with some print-through and didn't want them to use filler because it would add weight. The thin layup was by design, and weight control is important for performance. They used a high-build epoxy primer, and sanded down the high spots with a longboard so the primer was still very thin in the end, but much more level. The primer was so thin at the high spots that it was transparent, but it did the job of filling the gelcoat pores.

This photo shows the hull in original gelcoat when I was compounding, before wax. You can see the print through very clearly.
