Hi Ron ...
In Response To: Dishonest folks in Florida? ()

... after 10 years and quite a bit of work in FLA east coast, I've found the little guys, the small subs, the sole operators to be great. Good honest people, good reputable work. Mostly no complaints.

I've had some significant disappointment and unfortunate circumstances with a few of the larger outfits, folks like Mack Sails out of Stuart in particular ... weasels they are. I think the biggest problem is they charge out at $70 to $90/hour, then turn around and find inexperienced stooges to do the work and pay them $15 to $20/hour. So not exactly get what you pay for.

I just didn't have that experience in New England ... I found folks there working on boats know what they're doing. The same goes for house construction, they know what they are doing and they give us an excellent product. I grew up there building custom homes for my father, it didn't matter to him whether he made a dime or not, what mattered was how he did the job and was the owner happy. Do you ever wonder why so many houses blow over in Florida every time a hurricane rolls through, it's not just the wind, it doesn't happen on the coast of New England.

Cheers, John
