On my boat I suspect the smell is in the hose so I'm not sure aerating the tank would do much and the only place it is noticeable is in the head. Training my family to pump until there is nothing but water in the hose is likely my best solution.

I really doubt the pump is explosion proof since there is no mention of this in the literature. Testing for explosion proof is not very expensive so if it was designed to it I'm sure it would be rated. I do wonder if it is quieter or perhaps more efficient than a standard aquarium pump. I don't think it would be worth the effort for my boat.
