I could be wrong, but I would bet that Rockland YC does not have deep enough pockets to take a loss on this venture. The club doesn't even have its own building; it uses some space in the Harbormaster's building. Their post race dinner is pot luck (and it was probably the best feast the fleet had anywhere along the coast last year). The club is also trying to give a bit of a boost to local youth programs (in partnership with the Apprenticeshop) so maybe they're trying to raise some funds with the launch service. All speculation of course.
