Yes. Yesterday about 3 miles off

the NJ shore headed towards AC from Cape May I got hailed by name of Ch16. A huge ship was being towed southbound about 4-5 miles off, and the captain wanted to be sure I would not attempt to cross his line of travel. I had my radar and Plotter set at 3 mile range and only when I went out to 6 did I see him. We passed starboard to starboard with no issues. This was the first time I have been hailed by name and it was quite interesting and got my attention alright!
We made it into AC in fog just before a violent downpour and cold winds as a frontal line passed.
AIS is an enjoyable safety feature.
Marine Traffic (internet) only picks up recreational Ch B sometimes and only when moving-so I'm safe from pirates outside CONUS.:-)
