Good advice from Todd and Al. We usually make the +/- 40 mi. run to Mistake I or Roque going outside Petit Manan. Sometimes we'll leave from Little Cranberry I or Winter Harbor to cut a little distance out of the day. If you go inside across the Petit Manan Bar be sure to do it in relatively calm conditions. It can get ugly there with an opposing wind and tidal current. Make sure you go with the tide or you'll be looking at a long frustrating day, the tidal range can exceed 20' as you near Cutler. As Al mentioned, The Mud Hole is a very nice stop and the hiking trails on Great Wass (mostly Nature Conservancy) are not to be missed. Be sure to enter at half tide or better. Another good spot to anchor if it's going to be windy is in Bunker Cove just off the Roque Thorofare. Cutler is another favorite stop with more beautiful hiking trails within easy walking distance from the harbor. There is plenty of room to anchor and good holding there. As mentioned by the others, the only things available at Cutler are diesel and lobsters. Cross Island, on the way to Cutler, is another exceptionally beautiful stop with more hiking trails. Last summer I needed a minor part for the diesel so we made a stop at the Jonesport Shipyard. They have a couple mooring floats with room for 4 boats in the harbor. They have very nice showers and laundry facilities and water ashore. Diesel is available a short walk from the town dock and there is a small Hamilton's in town too. Unfortunately, I just read in the Bangor Daily News, that the IGA has closed. I understand there is a Hannafords in town but I doubt that it's in easy walking distance. This just scratches the surface. There are dozens of other neat little nooks and crannies to explore in that area.
