The Harken system is really just a simplier, less expensive system that is adjustable at the mast to tension or release

the Lazy Jacks.

The Defender Catalog or web will show the diagram.

You could "build" your own or have built -- but it woudn't save you any money.

(P.S. -- I have had and love our Dutchman system -- but we have an approximately 900 SF Main with a stick that is 73' off the water. I think you could go there, but a lazy jack system is less expensive and worked fine on our previous boat, a Sabre 42. By the way, you can still go with a loosefooted sail with a Dutchman -- ask me if that's applicable, or North doesn't explain it to you.)
