The last time I was there I was amazed at the size of the powerboats at the docks around the lake. One of the local contacts told me that they were actually summer homes for people from the New York City area and rarley, if ever, left the dock. As he explained, the theory was that for the price of dockage they got power, water, had a nice place to sleep (like a summer cottage) but did not have to pay property taxes. Come fall, the cottage comes out of the water, gets winterized and stored until the following spring. Very clever I thought.
