Yup, both caught pots. Our Sabre 34-II is no surprise with its offset, exposed, prop, although the circumstances of a buggered anchoring attempt might have happened to any configuration. More anon. The Bristol 40 usually spits buoys right out, but they caught a toggle which fit into the aperture. We did establish that divers are $100 this year in Maine. (Paul also got one for $40 who couldn't get the job done.)
Most memorable sailing? Hard to choose from the few moments we actually had. Was the worst cruise ever for wind direction; goes to show why one isn't supposed to cruise to schedules or even destinations. We did have an unusual sail up the "fingers" from Cape Small to Pemaquid Point on an unforecast easterly. Not to complain! We laid back and zig-zagged our way up the many points under autopilot. A Hanse 45 (?) we'd seen at the Dolphin came along and slooooly worked its way past us, hand-steered. Felt good.
The furthest east we got was The Mud Hole on Great Waas Island. Original plan had been Roque, but given the wind and current, this was the better option. We did get a break on the wind the end of that day and eased our way along the rocky bits until we could gybe into the Mud Hole Channel.
Coming back west, we had a delightful reach across East Pen Bay from Mark Island to the Fox Islands Thorofare. If instruments were to be believed, towards the end we were doing 5+ knots in 4+ knots of wind. Our Haarstick sailmaker says it can happen.
The diesel problem is a tough one. Most folks think we were dealing with bad fuel. But the Racor only got blackened once and then looked fine after the next day's problem. It always happened after a day (sigh) of motoring, so I'm inclined to think that heat is a factor. Not as in overheating but just the built-up heat on components. Today I changed a rubber fuel hose that crosses the top of the engine compartment. It must be pretty hot there by mid-afternoon. Another Sabre-owner said this was the cause of his problem with a similar description. Probably never need to power that much in Buzzards Bay, so might not have it happen again until headed to Maine again! Will change out other stuff over the winter and take a look into the tank.
