That has always been my solution when heading "wrong way" into strange waters... just rotate the paper chart, orient as one would do with a land map to verify the "crusty stuff" along shore...

But then I also keep a plotting board "eye of God" chart going... which is north up. In other words, I change my perspective to help me verify what I think I am seeing.
