I didn't notice the boat was any hotter than any other boat. Down island, you're far enough south the sun is so high it mostly heats the deck, not the hull. The air temperature isn't all that high and, most of the time, the trade winds keep the air moving. A canvas awning from mast to stern helps big time.
That was in the days before air conditioning. When I heard people talking about air conditioning and how cool it was, I thought they were referring to Brylcreem, which I didn't think was at all cool.
