It was early in the spring, the same storm in which the Hardin 45 ALMESIAN was lost on her way to Bermuda. It was the first and only time I've ever done the Dismal Swamp route. I was tied up to a bulkhead behind a Mexican restaurant at the northern end near Deep Creek, snug as a bug, for 2 days... That cantina was fantastic, I had every meal there, highly recommended...

Like you, I had no tall trees nearby. If I were ever caught in the Tidewater area for a named storm, I'd think about heading inside the canal, you'd certainly be protected from any surge... But I suspect many others might have the same idea, and with the secure mooring opportunities not all that plentiful, if it got crowded in there, such a plan could backfire...

Still, hard to imagine anything too bad could happen to you in there...
