Hey Chris,
Great report, as usual...
Yeah, this was a pretty serious front that came thru, alright... Left Beaufort yesterday AM, nice sail down outside to Wrightsville, snuck back in there just before it started to blow... It snowed a bit there last night, in the morning the deck and dock was coated with ice...
Incredibly lucky timing, low tide at Southport was around 0930, so we flew down the Cape Fear river at about 9 knots... Went outside thru the Western Bar Channel, for the run across to Little River Inlet... Breeze out of the NNE at 25-30+, hauling ass on a beam reach under deeply reefed main and jib, awesome sailing as good as it gets, one foot on the beach, not another soul in sight... Hit Little River on the flood, and carried a strong fair current for a few hours thru the Ditch behind Myrtle Beach, winding up at the Marina at Grand Dunes...
Dinner at Ruth's/Chris steakhouse a stone's throw from the boat, barely able to waddle back aboard... As usual, very glad I'm not paying for any of this... (grin)
Awesome day, about as good as it ever gets... Why more people don't do that run outside from Oak Island to Little River never ceases to amaze, what a sail on a day like today...
best regards,
Jon
