I remember going to Watkins Glen in 1961 for the F1 races. Very local, homey atmosphere compared to today's pack-em-in NASCAR attitude. Just wander around close to the track. All the spectator areas were grass. We were at the outlet of the big bend just before where the 'boot' is today - I still remember the distinctive sound of the silver Porsches coming out of the corner. We were all rooting for Dan Gurney in his 718 RSK, but he only took a second. Engines at that time were only 1.5 liters, putting out about 150 HP.
