I can't see any course of action that would make any sense. So I'm dumping them on an external hard drive through Time Capsule on my macbook. I quickly overloaded my ipad and realize that's just a short term staging tool. So those go onto my macbook simply by syncing the two(plug one into the other )
Then I've been going through photo files in Iphoto on my macbook and deleting doubles, bad expousres, etc. It's tough though. Unlike film, I do tend to take more shots in digital, especially if it's a unique setting or action. Subtle changes can reveal a great photo, but I may not have seen it on first download. But this process is cleaning up my working library and helping to reveal useful stuff.
In the end, the big pile on the external will have to go onto something else, to "back up the back up", and one day I may dump the whole thing.
The curious thing is, I have boxes of old 35 mm prints and negatives that I keep saying I should do something with. They sit in the attic, fading away. The more things change,...
