Heading South - Part 10

We've made it. Lake Worth (the lake, northern part, not the town) is our last stop in this country. We did 1800 nautical miles and 13 states in 53 days. Most of those miles were under sail, thanks to day after day of strong northeast winds.

There are only about 45 boats here in the anchorage, an unusually small number given how long it has been since there was a good window to cross over to the Bahamas. I heard from someone here that with the strong SE winds the past two days, a lot of boats have gone into marinas, along with his own. He's given up waiting for weather and is flying home for three weeks. I've heard rumors in past years of boats spending the whole winter here waiting for weather before giving up and sailing back home.

It's too early to tell but it looks like early next week might be a good time to head across. We'll be keeping an eye on it while we stock up from the nearby Publix. At least we're here and ready to go.
