Had a lot of practice on those

Back in the 60s and early 70s compass, dead reckoning and the radio with an RDF antenna were the only tools available. We did a lot of overnight races, often in fog, and spent a lot of time trying to get LOPs on Monhegan and the few other stations available. I remember one race where we were under spinnaker in a pretty good breeze, thick fog, heading for a turning mark with a ledge right behind it. Looking back it seems almost foolish, and a small miracle no one had serious incidents that I recall.
