Hey Chris,
I'm with you, Alabaster Bay has always been one of my favorites... An absolutely beautiful spot, I've always had it pretty much to myself. I once had the captain of a charter megayacht who came in, and let loose his fleet of jet skis upon the bay, later apologize to me for ruining the splendid isolation I was enjoying there when they arrived... Fortunately, they were gone the next morning... The news that one of the Big Boys is gonna 'improve' Alabaster Bay is very sad, indeed... One has to sometimes wonder what they're thinking, I presume they are aware that the Club Med just down the road in Governor's Harbour couldn't make it, right?
One of the more 'exciting' nights I've ever spent riding out a frontal passage, was huddled up into the lee of Pelican Cay at the NW corner of the bay... One the breeze moves N of W, you're pretty snug in there, but that was still a pretty wild night...
I could hang out in that place for days, in absolute peace, save the occasional diversion of watching a place land at the airport... I presume you've given Sally the tour of the rather spooky ruins of the old Naval tracking station, and that beach is one of the most beautiful in all of the islands. I have never encountered another person there... Great bike riding around there, as well - I love taking the ride up to the delightful village of James Cistern for a breakfast or lunch, one of the things still on my Bahamian Bucket List is to someday see their Championship Girl's Softball team - of which the entire community is immensely proud - play a game in that rustic little 'stadium' in the center of town...
Chris, have you ever stopped at Lighthouse Bay, behind East End Point at the southernmost tip of Eleuthera? You need very settled weather to hang out there, but it's another of my favorite spots... Almost guaranteed you'll have it to yourself, and aside from the occasional local conch fisherman, you might go days without seeing anyone else... You might get a bit of surge from time to time in there, but nothing too bad, small price to pay for such a beautiful spot...
best regards,
Jon
