One of our favorite places too ...
In Response To: In the Bahamas - Part 7 ()

… usually we're the only boat in there. One of a few spots to ride out a Front along the Bank of Eleuthera with some degree of comfort, as long as it isn't that bad and moving quickly, as Jon says moving to the south and then north ends and tucking in close to the rocks on both ends. BUMMER news about Coco di Mama. Used to be a great spot, good, reasonably priced food, they'd have bands couple nights a week and the WiFi. You will find plenty of fish around the rocks at the north and south ends, just around the corners into the Bank. As the Jon says the old Tracking Station beach you can walk for miles, lovely. I'll also 2nd Jon's anchorage at the very south end of Eleuthera but my guess is this time of year you won't find comfort there, usually late spring you might when things calm down for extended periods of time, but check it out. I also like the anchorage at Little San Sal, on the northwest corner of the Bay by the rocks and away from the DisneyWorld stuff ... as long as there are no cruise ships coming or going, the beach is amazing, as is the long beach on the Ocean side for walking is cool. You will find lots of fish on the Reef at the very northwest end Cut but make sure to snorkel at slack tide or drift with the current, don't plan on doing any fishing if the current is running, only sight-seeing, the current can be wicked. The folks at L. San Sal monitor CH 74, you can call them and ask what the cruise ship schedule is, and if no ships, I would check this place out.

I just got my email from the Staniel Cay Yacht Club, if you're feeling social, here's what's on tap for the week after your Christmas Day stay in RS …
Dec. 27 > Commodore's Ball 6PM
Dec. 28 > Annual Long Drive Contest and Happy Hour
Dec. 29 > The Pirate Party 7PM
Dec. 30 > Captain's Cocktail Party, Pre-Race briefing for the Class A races, and Silent Auction
Dec. 31 > A-Class boats Racing. My guess is you could easily fetch a ride on one of the boats which is always fun. An hour or so before racing, just dinghy around and ask, you'll get on. The favorites will be Tida Wave, Red Stripe and my choice (Lady Muriel, or Lady M … just tell Marcus you're an old salt from Maine and know what you're doing, he'd love to have you!). Cocktail Party, Pig Roast and NY Eve Celebration
Jan. 1 > Cruising Regatta … open to all cruising boats.

This all will be a bit of scene, lots of boats, certainly not Alabaster Bay, but it can be fun too if you're feeling like you need a bit or action.

Cheers, John
