As many may know, Jill and I cruised down there for over 5 years. We still have MANY friends down there. I have been in contact with many of them recently.
Don't get your panties in a bundle!
First,Mexico is Mexico, and MUST be taken as an independent country! It's NOT part of the US or any other country and as such, has it's own rules and regulations that MUST be followed.
YES, I do have at least one friend who has a boat that is currently “on the list”. And he does have all the paperwork in order and was even talked to by the officials and once told he was OK.
By the way, this does NOT apply to JUST BOATS!!! The tax has also been raised on homes and other items. Many Mexicans are in an uproar over the increase. The government there is trying to gain income, same as most others are doing. It's just more visible at this time.
Next, again, remember this is Mexico we are talking about, NOT an uptight country that believes all problems can be solved in a one hour TV episode.
If people are there, in person, and keep calm, not “demand” ANYTHING, and give the officials respect (NO MATTER WHAT YOU think), it will all be taken care of. ….. just not today....
The most recent note I received, this AM is;
“>Greg,

>Things are looking up. I'm still alive; literally. The word (on the
>impound fiasco) we have from a reliable source says it is nearly over.
>Hopefully in the next couple weeks it will be a thing of the past.
>
>Patience is a virtue that is sometimes difficult to cultivate. “
