It has been a few years since I last sailed back to the US from the Bahamas. After 9/11 the clearing in process became so onerous that I stopped bothering with it. I'm wondering if there's been much change in the past 5 years or so. Does my broadcasting an AIS signal make it likely I'd be caught not clearing in? Which Florida ports are best for clearing in? What else should I know about that's different now?

We're not heading back yet. I've just begun thinking about it,
