Someone posted this photo of the 55' schooner Windfall on the Freeport FB page. At first she was misidentified her as the schooner Bowdoin, another William Hand design. Windfall and all 4 crew were lost in a November 1962 hurricane as they sailed from Mystic toward Bermuda. According to Adlard Coles in the 1972 reprint of Heavy Weather Sailing the were last seen by the crew of a freighter clinging to the wreckage. The storm was so severe the freighter crew was unable to save them. I grew up with the children of at least two of the lost Windfall crew.
