My mind checks-out when I think about the cost per mile or cost per hour for a boat or any of its equipment... I just can't justify any expense on a pleasure boat except as a cost of your lifestyle and recreation enjoyment. So I try not to think about it too much.

I'm thinking extra water bladders and carriers would be a reasonable low-tech alternative, if I were to take the boat cruising for just a few months in places where water is more difficult to obtain.
