Living alongside a woodenboat building yard, spring is like Christmas.

All winter long I listen to a large crew of skilled craftsmen saw, plane, hammer inside a cavernous old red boat building shed. Come spring, piece by piece, boat by boat, centuries of combined experience in the craft comes out into the daylight.

They'll be big boats this year, but I enjoy the 'little' projects as much. Like this beautifully restored old spruce spar. This is the upper spreader on the 70'(?) long mast.
